Department of Business

Preamble

The Business department in Accra Academy has been known over the years for turning out business oriented and result achieving students. This can only be attributed to the collaborative effort between the dedicated staff and students of the department, school management, as well as stakeholders.

PROGRAMME AND SUBJECTS OFFERED

Business programmes the department offers is the Accounting option and Subjects offered in the Business department are Principles Accounting, Business Management, Principles of Cost Accounting, and Economics. These subjects are handled by experienced and committed members of staff who also act as supervisors and mentees for student teachers posted annually from the University of Cape Coast and the University College of Education, Winneba.

STUDENT POPULATION AND ELECTIVE SUBJECTS

The number of students studying business for the 2014/15 Academic year is about 750 students. These students are divided into five streams – Business 1 to Business 5. Business 1 to 3 offers Elective Mathematics whereas students in Business 4 and 5 offer Principle of Cost Accounting their elective subjects.

Business 1 to Business 3 offer Business Management, Principles of Accounting, Elective Mathematics and Economics.

Business 4 to Business 5 also offer Business Management, Principles of Accounting, Principle of Cost Accounting and Economics.

FRESH STUDENTS

The department holds orientation sessions for fresh students at the beginning of each year, aimed at providing the necessary information to help them settle quickly and find their bearings. As part of the orientation they are also given an overview of their career path development. Such interactive sessions have always been very beneficial
