Named after Mrs. Ellen Buckle, Ellen hall prides itself as the mother of all the halls of residence in the Accra Academy. It is important to note that Madam Ellen Buckle was the lady who graciously made available her storey building, situated at James Town, to the founding fathers to commence what has become an outstanding educational effort by any four individual young men in Ghana – The Accra Academy.
Ellen hall opened her doors to receive her first batch of boarders into residence in 1966 alongside the three other traditional halls, producing proud Ellenites, and still counting. Total population presently stands at 85, made up of 38 form twos and 47 form threes. Activities of the hall are woven around the tenets of sacrifice, discipline and hard work for academic excellence.
Co-curricular activity is taken seriously in the hall, just as academic work. The hall is the current basketball champions, and second best in handball. Besides, the hall can boast of the best handball and basketball players namely, Masters Daniel Nornyibe and Ibrahim Basha.
The hall has instituted a termly P.T.A. meeting, offering a platform for parents, as important stake holders, to play the role expected of them in educating their children. This has yielded positive results.
It is the expectation of the hall that Ellenites who have passed through the hall and lived under the brightness of the rising sun would come to Macedonia and offer some help so the hall would keep on living up to her accolade – The pace setters.
